অনুভব — সুকান্ত ভট্টাচার্য

Description:

In Astonishing World, Sukanta Bhattacharya expresses his shock and anguish at the harsh realities of his homeland. Born into a country under colonial rule, he witnesses growing anger, widespread hunger, poverty, and death. He is particularly disturbed by a society where human lives seem to be reduced to figures in an account book, with “the cost of blood” recorded as an ordinary expense. The poet’s repeated expression of astonishment is deeply ironic, revealing his anger and disillusionment rather than simple surprise. Despite being born in this land, he feels that he has received nothing but hardship and oppression. The poem is ultimately a powerful protest against colonial subjugation, hunger, injustice, violence, and the devaluation of human life.
